Become a dog foster parent If adopting a dog is not possible for some reason, you can still help by becoming a foster parent. The heart of every rescue group is the foster home. It not only gets the dogs out of the pound quickly, and into a home environment, but also it allows us to get a better picture of the dog and gives him socialization, which will lead to a greater likelihood of finding that forever home sooner.
There are many ways you can help foster--even on an hourly or nightly basis, until we can make a more permanent arrangement. You could even do weekend--only fostering. There are so many different situations that we're faced with that we can be flexible with your availability.
All you need to do is be willing to provide temporary food, shelter, and love, and come to our adoptions on Sundays. Sometimes even if you cannot host a dog in your own home, we still need people who can act as a dog handler at our adoptions. The more volunteers we have, the less dogs have to stay home on adoption days.
So please consider becoming a temporary foster parent, even if on a short-term basis. You can pick up a dog on a Sunday afternoon, keep it a week, and bring it back to one of our adoptions the following week, at PetSmart on the west side of Springfield, off Veterans Parkway.
Frankly, good foster homes are our greatest need. If there's any way you can help in that respect, please call Lin, or send us an email.
